Sandy River Belle - Charlotte Carrivick - Guitar
I put this tune in my recent banjo lesson series as an introduction to the tuning of the same name. It's a lovely one to play on guitar as well, so I thought I'd come up with a few versions for my guitar and banjo series. You can find the tabs and lessons for this on my patreon site:

    Tricky to get the dropped thumb to lift off strings 4 to 2 with the natural claw motion (not plucking). With string 5 it is easier, no other string in the way so the thumb can dig in. Making me wish I had a wider string spacing and a wider neck! My banjo has a 1.25" nut width.

  • @SeorasAshby
    @SeorasAshby 25 дней назад

    Really enjoying the structure of the lessons. Thank you for showing so clearly how to use a metronome to play real sloooow. The metronome set at 80 to play at 40 bpm trick was a revelation for me. And your performance at the end showing what Cripple Creek can be. Wow, very inspiring.

    Would love to know who made your banjo Charlotte? Such beautiful tone. I know that is mostly down to you. But I am curious what make of banjo this is?

    • @carrivicksisters
      @carrivicksisters 26 дней назад

      Thank you - I made it! In terms of the spec for the main tone producing elements, it's got a cherry rim with a Rickard Dobson style tone ring and a hefty walnut neck. The calf skin gives it a nice soft, clear sound too.

    Got my banjo last Friday so your publishing of this course could not be more timely for me Charlotte. Thank you! Got myself the book. Struggling with which finger, index or middle to choose as my striker. Also the high G 5th string is messing with my head. I'm a guitar player aspring to learn banjo so it feels unnatural that what is normally the lowest pitch string is high!

    • @carrivicksisters
      @carrivicksisters 26 дней назад

      Ah yeah, it can be confusing. Try to ignore, it at least to start with. It's effectively a drone string rather than something that's there for playing melody (most of the time at least).

    How fast can you crosspick with metronome? What would be a good number for a goal?

    • @carrivicksisters
      @carrivicksisters 28 дней назад

      I've never sat down and tested how fast I can play anything in particular. Think of the overall melody of a piece, decide on how fast that should be to sound the way you want it, and build up any cross picking sections to match that.
